Clyde Cecil Hobbs, 88, a revered figure from Mt. Vernon, Indiana departed peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2026.
Born on July 24, 1937, in Anniston, Alabama, Clyde emerged as the eldest of three sons to Clyde Norman and Annie Cecil (Day) Hobbs.
His life radiated through unwavering commitment to hard work, compassion, humor, and devotion to those closest to him.
A Champion in Sport and Family
From early days, Clyde’s passion for athletics flourished—particularly in basketball and softball—where his legendary pitching earned him a coveted spot in Alabama’s Softball Hall of Fame in 2012.
Married to Rosa Ann Owen since 1955, their partnership blossomed into a loving family of four children, filling their home with enduring warmth and laughter.
Clyde’s professional journey spanned over three decades at General Electric, where he managed facilities nationwide within the human resources domain.
His leadership propelled him to head the company’s plastics division, anchoring the family’s move to Mt. Vernon, Indiana, where roots ran deep.
Beyond the workplace, Clyde dedicated himself to civic life—serving as president of the Solarbron Residents’ Association and actively participating in his church and local clubs.
A Warm and Witty Presence
Known for his infectious laughter and zest for life, Clyde delighted in music, jokes, and moments shared with cherished companions.
Though playful about being “failed” at naming a doll for his six granddaughters, his humor never diminished his genuine affection for family.
He is survived by his parents, his late wife Rosa, and daughters Dani Marie, Dianne Keck, Katherine "Kathy" Bockelman, and son Clyde "Steve" Hobbs.
A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on August 14, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, with visitation preceding the ceremony.
