Nicholas J. Crossan shared a heartfelt Facebook message supporting Tavar Proctor, Franklin High School’s long-time boys’ basketball coach.

The experienced coach, known for revitalizing the girls’ team from 2017-2018 before moving to the varsity role, prioritized building Quaker program culture and nurturing young men beyond athletics.

His removal sparked reactions, with Crossan emphasizing the situation reflects deeper issues of inconsistent rule enforcement across schools.

"The inconsistency in so-called reasons being applied is particularly troubling," Crossan noted, highlighting how similar programs face differing scrutiny.

Crossan stressed Proctor’s role as a genuine leader, pointing out his dedication to teaching accountability while inspiring future aspirations through coaching.

Another advocate, Donyetta Jcoco Sanford, joined social media discussions criticizing repeated departures of Black coaches, questioning systemic patterns within Seattle Public Schools.

LaShay Stanton-Phillips echoed concerns about fairness, noting the recent firing of a Black cheer coach alongside Proctor’s situation.

These developments reignite conversations about equity in historic Seattle institutions and their coaching staff dynamics.
