Donald Lee Graber, a cherished figure from Odon, Indiana, departed this world at 76 after a valiant four-year struggle with esophageal cancer. His legacy as a devoted father, inspiring coach, and community stalwart continues to resonate.Born to John and Verda Graber on January 20, 1949, in Odon, Indiana, Donald Lee Graber grew into a man whose kindness and dedication shaped countless lives.
As one of seven siblings—Stanley, Brian, Marc, and sisters Eva Dorene, Shirley, Fern, and Sandra—Donald Lee Graber thrived in a close-knit family environment that instilled values of love, hard work, and community spirit.
His journey began at Odon High School, where he excelled in basketball and forged lifelong friendships. Graduating in 1967, his passion for the sport remained undimmed, leading him to become a fixture at Indiana University games alongside friends like Bobby and Lesli Boardman.
Beyond playing, Graber poured his heart into coaching. He guided his five daughters—Anna, Sheila, Leslie, Jodi, and Beth—through softball, led the 12U Acco Seed team to state runner-up status, and served as a fastpitch coach at North Daviess. His support extended beyond sports, celebrating every academic and personal milestone.
Outside the field, Don worked at Pat Larkin Lumber in Loogootee, later co-owning City Lumber and Hardware. Even in retirement, he contributed through family remodeling projects, building more than just homes.
His battle with cancer concluded on May 21, 2026, at Daviess County Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Though his absence leaves a void, his impact endures through the lives he enriched.
Kay Bechtel Stoll shared, "His fight was extraordinary. We find solace knowing he’s at peace." Friends recall him as a childhood hero, while family members cherish memories of his unwavering support.
