Joseph Colodne, a cherished coach and educator, departed from us unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with his wife Madelaine and their family.
Although details about the circumstances of Joseph's passing remain private, his influence resonated deeply within his community.
Colodne's journey began on the soccer field as a dedicated player at Rider University, where he competed in the Broncs men's soccer team from 1997 to 1998. His passion for the sport translated seamlessly into his coaching philosophy, enriching the athletes he mentored.
He pursued higher education at Rider University, earning a bachelor's degree in History in 2002, which he balanced alongside his athletic commitments. His academic background further enhanced his ability to connect with students on both intellectual and personal levels.
Transitioning from player to mentor, Colodne dedicated seven seasons as an assistant coach for Kean University's Women's Soccer program. Prior to this role, he contributed to Drew University from 2014 to 2018, guiding both women's soccer and goalkeeper teams through strategic development.
His professional tenure included stints with World Class FC (2016-2018) and FC Copa (2009-2016), where he led teams to multiple regional titles and national cup finals. Notably, he coached top-ranked squads in New Jersey and the U.S., fostering environments where athletes thrived.
Beyond athletics, Colodne taught history at Plainfield High School, blending his love for sports with academic rigor. His certifications included NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, National Diploma, and Goalkeeping Diploma, alongside ongoing efforts toward NSCAA Director of Coaching Certification.
His untimely departure has created an irreplaceable void, yet his teachings and mentorship endure through countless lives touched.
The Kean University community reflects on his profound impact, both on the field and beyond. A former student shared:
"Thank you for being more than a teacher—you were a mentor, a guide, and a kind soul who made history come alive. Your passion, stories, and unwavering belief in your students left a mark that time won’t erase."
Another reflection captures his spirit: "This just doesn’t feel right. Thank you for being apart of our childhood. I’ll always remember me and Bilal hanging outside your house just joking around. Giving some young kids a chance to make honest cash and it turned into us making memories."
May Joseph rest in peace, remembered for his generosity and the indelible memories he created.
Plans are underway to honor his legacy during the upcoming soccer season, ensuring his values continue to inspire future generations.
With deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and heart.
