On July 19, 2026, near Cordova, deputies discovered Corey Adams in a vehicle following an incident reported around 10:14 p.m., according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts by deputies, the University of Mississippi's Ole Miss Rebels defensive end was pronounced dead later by the fire department.

"Upon arriving at Fern Glade Cove, deputies found several shell casings and learned that four adults had been transported to local hospitals with gunshot injuries,"

The remaining four victims sustained non-critical injuries. Ole Miss Football expressed profound sorrow through a statement on Twitter, pledging privacy during this difficult period.

"Our program is struggling with this immense loss, yet we remain steadfastly supportive of Corey's family. We request continued respect for their privacy,"
