Slater, nicknamed AC, has played for the MLB team San Francisco Giants as an outfielder since 2017.
The Florida-born and raised athlete is a grandson of Ed Austin, the former mayor of Jacksonville and football player at Duke University. His parents named him Austin in memory of his grandfather.
