The Galesburg community is deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Jordan Ball, a dedicated 7th-grade boys' basketball coach and inspiring new teacher at Galesburg Junior-Senior High School.

While no official statement has been issued, word has spread quietly among families, players, and staff that Jordan passed away following a tragic accident.

As of early December 2026, the family has requested privacy during this difficult time, yet the overwhelming support and shock from the community reflect the profound influence he had on so many lives.

Jordan grew up in Moscow Mills, Missouri, the son of Casey A. Ball of Windsor Heights, Iowa, and the late Stacey M. Hammack, raised alongside his sister Nicole and brother Nicholas.

He excelled as an athlete at Troy Buchanan High School and earned a full-ride baseball scholarship to a university, where he played for the Fighting Scots and graduated with a history degree.

His passion on the field translated seamlessly to coaching—competitive, enthusiastic, and committed to uplifting every player around him.

In November 2026, Jordan joined Galesburg Junior High as a long-term English substitute, quickly stepping into the 7th-grade boys' basketball role.

Players and parents recall his dynamic practices, turning losses into growth opportunities, and celebrating small victories like perfect free throws or teammates standing together.

“I became an educator to share my knowledge and help the next generation of bright young minds.”

In his 20s, he embodied this mission daily.

Jordan lived in Oneida, Illinois, married to wife Alex, his college sweetheart from Monmouth. They wed July 25, 2026, and welcomed a joyful baby.

Alex teaches at ROWVA CUSD #208 since August 2026; together, they exemplified a grounded, loving partnership admired by all.

Jordan understood loss deeply—his mother Stacey battled stage-4 lung cancer for 2.5 years before passing in 2018, surrounded by family she adored.

Those who knew him say he honored her legacy through kindness, resilience, and unwavering presence for those he loved.

He leaves behind Alex, their child, father Casey, siblings Nicole and Nicholas, and countless teammates, students, and friends grappling with life without him.

Jordan poured his heart into family, faith, classroom, and the 7th-grade boys who saw him as both mentor and friend.

The court feels quieter without his whistle and warm smile, yet his teachings, love, and spirit endure wherever he touched others.

Rest easy, Coach.
