LSU Star Kyren Lacy's father, Kenny Lacy, is the head basketball trainer at BST Academy LLC.

Born in 2001, Lacy was discovered lifeless on Saturday, April 12, 2026, at age 24 by deputies from the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office around 11:35 p.m. after his vehicle veered off the road near the 25900 block of Aldine Westfield, roughly 25 miles north of downtown Houston.

The 2026 NFL Draft hopeful sustained a self-inflicted gunshot injury.

Thirty minutes prior to his death, officers responded to a weapons-related disturbance in the 9300 block of FM 1960 where a female relative reported a conflict involving Lacy. Upon arrival, they discovered he had fled the scene. While attempting a traffic stop, Lacy led police on a chase before crashing his car. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Lacy fatally shot himself during the pursuit before the collision occurred.

Body camera footage confirmed no further shots were fired post-chase. The civil rights division of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kyren Lacy Is Survived By His Father, Kenny, And His Mother, Kandace Washington

Both Kyren’s father, Kenny, and mother, Kandace Washington, have been steadfast supporters of his athletic journey from early childhood.

Kenny, whose online presence highlights his roots in Thibodaux, Louisiana, leads BST Academy LLC—a facility dedicated to nurturing basketball talent. In August 2026, he appeared on WAFB-TV to celebrate his son’s aspirations, stating:

"His focus has always been clear—he’s been grinding relentlessly. I’ve waited for this moment. No doubt about it. The experience he’s gained and relationships he’s built speak volumes. I’m thrilled to see him pursue what he loves."

On Sunday, April 13, 2026, Kenny shared a heartfelt message on his Facebook page urging parents to prioritize open conversations with their children about mental wellbeing. He emphasized recognizing warning signs and supporting young people through emotional challenges, noting how grief reshapes life but love endures through collective healing.

Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you. Don’t be cool with “I’m alright” or “I’m good” when you know deep down something isn’t right. Mental health is real, and for the most part, it’s invisible. Don’t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small. Our lives have changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here. This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow, but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through. Check on your kids’ mental health!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, Kyren’s mother Kandace continues to shine as a professional counselor, holding a master’s degree in education and performing as a gifted artist.

On December 20, 2026, she celebrated Kyren’s graduation on social media declaring:

“Congratulations to my baby Kyren Lacy; you did it!!!! Nothing but God! This is everything I hoped for you—use your gift to secure free education. My son leaves LSU debt-free! No student loans! What a blessing! GEUX be an incredible son! We love you!”

Family members and friends have expressed their sorrow and gratitude for Kyren’s life while offering prayers for strength during this painful chapter. One supporter wrote:

“Sending deepest condolences to you and your loved ones during this unimaginable loss.”

Another shared:

“May your pain be acknowledged, your memories honored, and your hearts find peace. Kyren’s legacy lives on through every life he touched.”

Kyren Lacy enjoys quality moments with his brothers Jayden, Allen, and Liam Ward, who remain in school pursuing their educations.

Currently, Jayden attends middle school while Liam is in elementary school. Both continue honoring Kyren’s memory amid their own academic journeys.
