The Kinkaid School community and beyond are grieving the profound loss of Chloe Childress, an 18-year-old counselor at Camp Mystic, who tragically perished during the catastrophic Fourth of July weekend floods in Hunt, Texas.
Having recently graduated from The Kinkaid School, Chloe was poised to embark on her academic journey at the University of Texas at Austin this fall.
Her untimely passing has left an indelible mark on all who knew her, not merely for the promising future she embodied, but for the profound warmth, generosity, and empathy she consistently shared with every individual she encountered.
Kinkaid Community Grieves the Unexpected Departure of a Cherished Individual
Chloe Childress distinguished herself as co-president of the Honor Council during her tenure at Kinkaid, excelled in varsity cross country, and established a supportive organization dedicated to senior citizens.
In an emotional message to the school family, Jonathan Eades, Head of School at Kinkaid, recalled Chloe as someone who "possessed an extraordinary gift for making people feel truly acknowledged."

Eades continued,
“She demonstrated unwavering support through her openness about her own struggles, offering solace to peers, and providing quiet encouragement during challenging moments. Chloe fost nd her presence inspired bravery and connection.”
Her dedication to uplifting others defined her character. Chloe had been serving as a counselor at Camp Mystic since June.
As Eades explained, she ultimately sacrificing her own life in service to those around her—a testament to her enduring spirit.
Devastating floods devastated portions of the Texas Hill Country during the Fourth of July celebrations, resulting in at least 80 fatalities with numerous individuals still unaccounted for.
Among the victims was Chloe, whose life was claimed while dedicating herself to assisting others—an embodiment of her daily commitment to kindness and service.
